Wellington Wed 20 Dec 2017 7.30pm St Mary of the Angels, Boulcott St "Gaudete" - we are very happy to be singing in St Mary of the Angels again, and to be joined by Palliser Viols (dir. Robert Oliver) for a spectacular concert of Christmas music for voices and viols; verse anthems by Byrd, Gibbons, Tomkins; plus a new work written especially for BV & PV by renowned NZ composer Ross Harris.

Wellington *Sun 3 Dec 2017 3.00pm Newtown Community Centre, cnr Rintoul & Colombo Sts "The Full Monte: Concert 5" - after a bit of a break, The Full Monte series returns, with Monteverdi's 5th Book of Madrigals! This collection of madrigals, published in 1605, marks the turning point from a capella (unaccompanied) to accompanied songs, where there is a basso continuo part indicated by the composer. Along with our guest artists Douglas Mews (harpsichord) and Robert Oliver (bass viol), we will be performing all but the last madrigal in the book, which requires more singers and string players and which we will add to "The Full Monte: Concert 6". (Watch this space!)
Admission: $25, $15 concession (seniors, students, unwaged)

(Memories of our Masters)" - music by legendary composers/teachers Jack Body, Ross Harris, David Farquhar and some of their composition students from the 1980s onward, many of whom are now affiliated with or currently teaching at the NZSM (previously the VUW Music Dep't); including new works by Alison Isadora and Michael Norris (commissioned by BV), and existing works (some previously commissioned by BV) by John Psathas, Helen Bowater, Pepe Becker and Ewan Clark.

8.00pm St Joseph's church, Ellice St "Alleluia: a newe work! (Feel the Love)" - in this, our annual (or bi-annual) concert which mixes and juxtaposes old and new music on themes of duality (birth/death, love/loss, joy/lamentation, connectedness/separation) and timelessness, we feature the erotic love madrigals of Claudio Monteverdi alongside new works by NZ composers using some of the same texts or on similar themes of love and death. BV will be joined by guest artist and composer, Mark Smythe (now resident in Los Angeles, USA), who will play electric guitar in his own works and in one of Pepe Becker's works.

St Andrew's at Rangi Ruru, Merivale Lane A repeat of "The Full Monte: concert 1" - the first in a series of concerts entitled "The Full Monte..." (music from the collected 9 "Books of Madrigals" by Claudio Monteverdi (1567-1643), to be performed in various concerts from 2011 to 2014 (when BV celebrates its 20th Anniversary). In this concert BV performs the entire "First Book of Madrigals for 5 Voices" unaccompanied, with selected (accompanied) madrigali and canzonette  from Book 9. Baroque Voices: Pepe Becker (sop./dir.), Jayne Tankersley (sop.), Christopher Warwick (countertenor), Oliver Sewell (ten.), Phillip Collins (ten.), Benjamin Caukwell (bass), with guest instrumentalist Chris Burn (organ). The line-up includes 4 musicians from Christchurch, and $5 from each ticket sold will go towards the rebuild of Christchurch Cathedral. More details on "The Full Monte..." to come...
